First it was the three red rings of death. I had to wait forever for them to ship my console back to me! And now my Xbox 360 console won’t play games anymore from disc. Fallout, Crackdown, Orange Box, and COD world at war, I tried them all and none of them will play. I can get on Xbox live and play Castle Crashers just fine, but any attempt to play a game from CD and it acts like the disc is all scratched up.

Here’s what I found out, and it fixed the problem for me. I don’t know if this will help you, but after performing the maintenance through a set of hidden commands from my controller, my xbox magically started working again. This reminds me of the old Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start code from Contra, except in this case, I hope it just gave my xbox 30 extra lives.
Go to the dashboard. Highlight "System Settings", push X. Highlight "Memory", push X. Highlight "Hard Drive", push Y.
Now you should be at a “Device Options” menu that has two choices, “Rename” and “Format”. This is where you input the special hidden code and get 30 extra xbox lives.
And the magic code is:
You should get a new window pop up titled “Maintain Storage Devices”, with this message:
This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue?
Select Yes.
Get back to gaming…
