Android update to include flash for Verizon’s Droid smartphone

Is Android’s update to version 2.1 or the delay for Verizon’s Droid smartphone a big deal? Well, that depends upon how you look at it.

…the shine of the Droid is starting to dim as owners eagerly await for the OS update to version 2.1. In December, a patch to version 2.0.1 was issued over the air to subscribers, offering a number of fixes and improvements. Droid owners have been expecting the 2.1 release, which has been available on the Google-branded Nexus One phone since January.

So it’s delayed; not a show stopper. Features found in the Nexus phone that are missing on the Droid will be a nice addition, but the big news is flash support is coming. Is that a big deal? Well, that too depends on how you look at it!

Not only will they receive Android 2.1 but Motorola has been working on Flash 10.1 integration and has optimized it for the Droid chipset, which means yes, your Droid will soon have official Flash support. On top of that, the Droid should get a second maintenance update in the near future. Score big for Droid.

Flash is client side, so is the droid hardware up to snuff? Flash apps are always bloated behemoths and only seem to get worse with time. Even if it renders everything just fine, is adding flash moving in the right direction?
