The beta is out right now. You’re stuck with one game type and one map right now, but it’s a big map and, wait for it…, the server browser is included. There are hundreds of servers up right now from all over the world. The game is, without a doubt, 10x better than Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

You get the same assault, engineer, medic, and recon classes to choose from, just like the other battlefield games. The easiest class to play right from the beginning is recon. There are so many people running around (there were 32 on the servers I played on). It’s easy to pick off the stragglers or the guys that go maverick, running out in front of the rest of their squad. By far my favorite class right now, however, is the medic. I get a light machine gun and heal people!

I’ve only played two rounds so far, but I’ve got to say it reminded me a lot of Battlefield 2142. That’s probably because of the map layout, the snow, and the fact that this is yet another battlefield game. Check out some videos of the action or just download the beta and play it for yourself. If you’ve played any of the other battlefield games, you will be in very familiar territory.

I’m not to keen on the kill cam, it seems pretty useless right now. It looks like they’ll be fixing a lot of little things here and there before the official release (one can only hope). There was a message about the server browser crashing people’s games, but I didn’t experience this problem, as you can see from my screenshot at the top.

The beta map is too big to limit to 32 players. It would be nice to have some servers set to 32 and others allow 64. The maps are much bigger than Modern Warfare 2’s, and the whole game is just much better. I don’t think i’ll play MW2 again, if fact, now is a good time to ditch it on ebay or craigslist.
