Many sites are blacked out today in support of banishing SOPA and ProtectIP. Here are some front page examples of sites participating in the protest
SOPA and PIPA would censor the web and harm American businesses. Senate voting begins Jan 24th. Sign the petition urging Congress to vote no on SOPA and PIPA.
Choice is one of many reasons why I really like this distribution over the other popular flavours right now. I share the same dissatisfaction for Unity and Gnome 3 with most of the community. While this is the main reason for jumping ship and crashing the Mint party, there are some really simple things I like, like Dropbox.
Check out the people living in Zhengzhou, Henan, China as of March 2011. It’s easy to find report after report of places like Zhengzhou, devoid of people; a testament to government corruption in the public for everyone to see. There’s lots of satellite photos depicting public buildings, residential housing, roads, and parking lots all empty like something out of Survivor. If the reports of new urban projects - brand new cities meant to replace aging cities elsewhere - are true, and the government will relocate citizens, then what exactly is to happen to the residents of these old overcrowded metropolises that get left behind?
Conspiracy websites are currently reporting increased seismic activity in Yellowstone and suggesting that the events are related to the earthquake and tsunami that happened off the coast of Japan in early March. These testimonies are easily debunked by looking at the current and recent activity compared to historical activity. Yellowstone experiences thousands of earthquakes every single year. Most are so small that they go undetected by people without scientific instrumentation.
We’re all exposed to limited amounts every day, but what about limited doses of radiation exposure? There have been all kinds of tests to prove low doses of a substance can have the inverse affects of higher dosages.
Check out the Radiation Network site for all kinds of info about radiation levels, normal background radiation fluctuation, and how you can participate in the network. Check out the live streaming broadcast of a Geiger counter in Tokyo, Japan on ustream. As of this writing, the reading is 23.05 cpm, which according to the Radiation Network is easily within normal background radiation levels.
Did you know there’s a 237 mile point-to-point WiFi link in Venezuela that achieves 3 Mbps throughput? They used Linksys WRT54G wireless routers, one on each end. Both are running Linux-based firmware.
It’s hard to believe X has been around since 1985. Most people expect all applications to use X, and modern Linux operating systems seem to be reimplementing all kinds of applications to incorporate graphical interfaces. The combination of layers available when developing an application that uses X is staggering.
Internet providers are already squashing net neutrality by throttling P2P, gaming, and other services. Using deep packet inspection they discriminate using artificial restrictions on content as they see fit. The FCC must take action to preserve the Internet as a free and open forum for all.
