Build and Install the Latest QEMU Machine Emulator from Source

QEMU is a generic and open source machine emulator and virtualizer. When used as a machine emulator, QEMU can run OSes and programs made for one machine architecture on a different machine architecture. This is different than VMware, VirtualBox, or Hyper-V where you’re running different operating systems on the same architecture.

Pick Combination Padlocks Like a Pro

First you’ll narrow the possible combinations from 64,000 down to 100. But you don’t have to try each of those 100 combos. There’s a simple task you go through to figure out the actual combination in a matter of minutes. Or just make a shim out of a coke can and pick it in 2 seconds. Now that you know a simple combo padlock is basically just a deterrent, you shouldn’t ever use one to lock up anything of real value.

Store and access passwords safely with python’s keyring

Python’s keyring lib supports Windows win32crypto, Mac OS X’s SXKeychain, KDE’s KWallet, Gnome’s keyring, and encrypted or unencrypted password files. When your application wants to store or fetch data from the keyring, it will just work.

Install swfdec-mozilla flash plugin for browsers from binary or source

Install the prerequisites noted in the README file if you’re building swfdec and swfdec-mozilla from scratch. I found I only needed to install liboil-devel and gstreamer-plugins-base-devel in order for it to build without complaint. When installing from binary on my 64-bit os, I found I was missing a lot of 32-bit packages needed by the plugin, so my dependencies needed by swfdec-mozilla.i386 rpm was long.

Adobe Flash support in Google Chrome beta using gnash-plugin

I can understand not including the support by default. No need to create bloat, but I want flash support, so here goes… Install gnash-plugin, create a plugins directory under chrome and create a softlink to the .so file. about:plugins will show your shockwave flash plugin. Here’s some test sites to test it with.

How to use the Riot Shield in Modern Warfare 2

I’ve seen several people play with the riot shield with varying degrees of success. If you have more deaths than kills but you win the round and have a higher score than some people with more kills than you, you’re doing something right. But what if you could get the kills and help your team mates out by playing as bait? Here are my three main riot shield loadouts.

Add rpmfusion, Google, and Adobe YUM repositories to Fedora 12

The google repo has google-desktop-linux, google-chrome-unstable, and a ton of other packages. Or you can just open the two links in a browser and download/install them from there. You’ll find things like the kmod-VirtualBox-OSE kernel module, mythtv, xmms, vlc, ffmpeg, libmpeg2, gstreamer, and Nestopia (remember nesticle, the Nintendo emulator?) here. You can get Adobe Reader here if you want to go full retard. I use a much faster pdf reader called “Poppler” (package name is poppler) that you can get in the standard repos.
