The vmrun command makes administering VMware virtual machines fast and easy when you’re stuck dealing with VMware Server 2.0. I really hate the web interface. It’s not responsive and in my opinion, a huge step backwards from the old 1.x consoles.
Most apps are just fine downloading through apt-get or yum and installing the latest binary version built for your flavour of Linux, but Wine isn’t one of those in the list for me. I suggest compiling Wine from source for everything you need, because the old version available in your package manager is probably old and you’re going to run into problems where the next step is to patch wine to get the latest version anyway, so just do it right now and be done with it.
I really like this tool, redirect the output to a file and it should dump the whole tree in seconds. All I was really interested in was the dn, cn, mail, and displayName, but I found I was able to see much more.
I ran into these two methods for grabbing just the unique elements from a list, one keeps the order, the other relies on sorting the list. But then I found some strange code that works really fast. Check out this amazing little one liner!
Oooo an irc client… i hate the state that most of the sugar software is in. I just feel like it’s all forced, I mean what’s the big deal anyway? Is it just my XO that’s slow and boring? I’m about to put Linux on the XO, and sugar on a regular Intel desktop. How backwards is that?! Maybe sugar will be usable on a real machine.
Instead of typing the export string out each time and the emerge line too, I just recalled them from the history knowing that the last set of commands that started with those characters were the commands I wanted. If you didn’t know about these handy shortcuts, now you know, and knowing is have the battle. So when is that movie coming out anyway!!?
I hate PDFs! I hate opening the viewer and sitting there, waiting for it to load, then dealing with the pop up asking me to update my software. I wish they were like regular text files or images, and not some twisted mutant hybrid of both with all the shortcomings from each side! So… now I just convert PDF’s to JPEG images!!! I love ImageMagick. It’s just so freaking useful… and free.
Here’s a very simple script to convert PDF’s to JPG’s:
For those of you still loading your digital camera’s images into MSPAINT or paying hard earned $$$ for some crappy program just to shrink the size and quality to get normal file sizes that display easily and upload faster to your favorite photo sites:
Do it in 1 freaking command …
Accessing the hidden VMware ESXi service console was supposed to be done only while working directly with a VMware technician, but it’s just so darn handy when you’re a command line junkie, that how can you resist right?
For those of you still loading your digital camera’s images into MSPAINT or paying hard earned $$$ for some crappy program just to shrink the size and quality to get normal file sizes that display easily and upload faster to your favorite photo sites: Do it in 3 seconds in cygwin, andlinux, or native linux!!!
