Cellular “kill pill” to disable netbooks

Posted in wtf

A kill command from a wireless carrier could be used to remotely disable a netbook? wtf?! Sweedish company LM Ericsson AB announced Tuesday that their hardware can deal with non-paymenits issues by sending a signal that completely disables the whole computer. Laptop makers that use Ericsson networking modules include Dell, LG, Lenovo, and Toshiba. Are you kidding me? If it’s true, how long until someone hacks this feature to ignore the kill pill? What could you do to prevent this on integrated networking?

April fools?
