Google Voice Phone Calls in Gmail on Linux

If you’re running Fedora or RedHat and you download the plugin required from Google to make voice calls from inside gmail, you’ll need to convert it to an RPM before you can use it.

$ sudo ./alien.pl -r google-talkplugin_current_i386.deb --scripts
google-talkplugin-1.4.1.0-2.i386.rpm generated

Convert DEB to RPM or RPM to DEB

Alien will convert RPMs to Debian .deb packages and vice versa. Download and unpack. You don’t even need to compile or install to use it.

Just run the perl script, alien.pl, and you can use it from wherever you unpacked the tarball - without going through any installation process.

Also, it won’t work until you have the older openssl libraries:

* libssl.so.0.9.8
