Standard Ethernet cables to replace HDMI

So Long HDMI: New Standard for A/V Uses Ethernet Cables

The price finally comes down to a somewhat reasonable level for HDMI cables and now they don’t want to sell them anymore.

USB?

What about small devices that incorporate hdmi such as phones? They’ll either have to come up with mini-ethernet cables or switch to one of the many flavors of USB.

The micro usb interface is so flimsy, it will probably be that one, however, with one foot in the grave, I’d rather see the mini make a comeback.

Mini-ethernet would be good for increasing switch rack density. Can you imagine 128 port ethernet switches in a 1U rackmount shell?

Whatever replaces HDMI in the small form factor arena, if it’s not a current standard, manufacturers will price gouge no doubt.
