I hate age the Month, Day, Year age verification on websites. Some kid is going to see that and enter their real age? Seriously? That’s more of an IQ check.

And for you guys collecting the stats on how many people you turn away, you might want to think about how many people may have accidentally mistyped the year. Congratulations, you just turned away another customer. I was going to check out a new mmorpg that I would probably have no problem paying $15 a month to play.

I was born in the late 1900’s, but I accidentally swapped the 9 and the 1. Now the site has locked me out because I won’t be 18 for another 7000+ years and it won’t let me in based on a cookie they set in my browser. I could clear the cache and re-enter the month, day, and year of my birthday, but I won’t. It’s just too much of a hassle. Kiss your $15/mo goodbye.

The ONLY site that I’ve come across that’s even come remotely close to getting it right is the Battlefield Bad Company 2 site. Whoever came up with this age verification check should get a promotion, a golf clap, or at least an achievement.

Enter your age. Plain and simple. I’m so mad about the other site that I think i’ll go and buy a copy of Battlefield! Oh wait, it’s published by EA, so maybe not. That’s the same company that screwed up my purchase of 2142. Their interfaces suck and each game is just a modded rehash of the last game.
